The earliest written sources of astrology in the world are found in Mesopotamia
and date back to around the 2nd millennium BCE. Since then, many civilizations
have developed distinctive astrological imagery that shaped their worldview. By hold
ing this embroidery circle in your hands, you have a unique opportunity to touch,
with both thought and hand, the heritage of our human ancestors—experiencing it,
discovering it, and at the same time re-creating it in your own way.
In Belarus, in the crypt of the Grodno church, a pagan ritual chalice decorated
with a zodiac was discovered (a partial visual interpretation of the Zodiac from an
Astrological Observatory). It is dated to approximately the 16th century. The twelve
zodiac signs are represented as follows:
1. Two arrows or a lightning bolt (corresponding to Pisces in the Hellenistic zodiac),
2. A sheepskin (Aries),
3. A rider (Taurus),
4. Two warriors fighting each other (Gemini),
5. A peacock facing one direction (Cancer),
6. A peacock facing the opposite direction (Leo),
7. A crane (Virgo),
8. Two suns exchanging places (Libra),
9. A stag with a fawn (Scorpio),
10. A spearman (Sagittarius),
11. A goat (Capricorn),
12. A horse (Aquarius).
